Crete is so strategically situated in the Mediterranean Sea between Greece and Turkey that possession of this beautiful island was fought over for many centuries. Part of Greece for just over a hundred years, it has settled into a peaceful Greek island lifestyle, which makes for a perfect holiday in the sun.

All rooms at Porto Elounda Golf & Spa Resort have much-admired views of Mirabello Bay and the clear warm waters of the Sea of Crete. This area on Crete’s north coast is considered the most beautiful part of the island.

Look & Feel

Natural integration with the local environment is what the architect/owner achieved in this resort, with a traditional village square decorated with Greek folk art and a charming vaulted ceiling chapel. Many find the nostalgic look at Porto Elounda Golf & Spa Resort comforting while others feel this five-star resort should be updated. As a result, the superior rooms and one-bedroom suites were renovated in 2015 to cater for both tastes. While the rooms characterise resort-style, your attention will be captured by a balcony with a shared or private pool and beyond to captivating sea views.

“Porto Elounda is all about barefoot chic for the whole family.”

Porto Elounda is all about barefoot chic for the whole family, with a Six Senses Spa that provides the cherry on top. So tempting are the treatments that guests have been known to visit this award-winning spa every day of their holiday.

There’s a beautiful small Blue Flag private sandy beach just for guests, but also numerous swimming pools. Trained staff supervises the kids in Kid’s Ark, where they have water slides and activities that can entertain them all day.

With the children occupied, it gives adults the chance to indulge in their own fun, with water sports such as scuba diving, waterskiing or canoeing. Or charter a boat to take you to an isolated beach for lunch or to the Venetian castle of Spinalonga. If you’d rather have your feet on dry land, there’s a shopping arcade, tennis, gymnasium and, of course, the reason many people choose to come here – the 9-hole par-3 golf course.

It’s hard to choose between the eight restaurants and four bars at Porto Elounda, especially as most are within sight of the warm Mediterranean Sea. Location-wise, you can’t get closer to the sea than in the Koh Pan-Asian Restaurant, which is on a platform over the sea itself!
